Scaling international and domestic TB efforts produces the greatest impact for the U.S.: preventing over 100,000 cases and 13,000 deaths and saving $68 billion over the next 25 years. TB will not be eliminated in the U.S. until significant progress is made globally – ensuring that Americans are kept safe from the deadliest infectious disease.

People who live in the same house as someone with TB are at an increased risk for developing TB disease. In Uganda, 星空娱乐官网 led a comprehensive pilot project that included home visits, chest X-rays, treatment counseling, and other strategies aimed at increasing case finding and preventive treatment, resulting in 91 percent of household contacts being screened for TB. Among household contacts, 83 percent started TB preventive treatment, with an impressive completion rate of more than 95 percent. These findings underscore the need for increased screening and treatment among households affected by TB.
