Dr. Young leads the ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø’s Public Health Infrastructure Center, driving strategic initiatives to strengthen the systems, services, and workforce that safeguard health across U.S. communities.

Role at ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø

The Public Health Infrastructure Center serves as the connection point between the agency and state, local, and territorial jurisdictions; tribes; and ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø's public health partners. Dr. Young leads a team of experts that set the strategic direction for the center to ensure that our country's public health infrastructure has the people, services, and systems needed to promote and protect health in every U.S. community (including all 50 states, the U.S. territories, tribes, and freely associated states).

Previous experience

Dr. Young has been the director of the Division of Workforce Development in PHIC since June 2024. Prior to this role, she served as the division's deputy director for science starting in October 2022. Dr. Young joined ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø in 2001 and has served in numerous leadership roles across the agency including as associate director for science in the former Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support; director of the Division of Library Sciences and Services in the former Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services; and associate director for learning in the former Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response.

Achievements

Dr. Young has received multiple ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø awards for excellence in science, evaluation, innovation, and collaboration.

Education

Dr. Young earned her doctorate and Master of Science degrees from the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Eckerd College.
