Notices to Readers Report on Use of Selected Medical Device Implants

The first national data about the use of selected medical device implants are available from ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø's National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The information was collected during 1988 by NCHS' ongoing National Health Interview Survey in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Devices and Radiological Health.

The report provides estimates of the number of persons with implants, types of implants, length of time implants have been in use, implant replacements, and reasons for and problems with implants. Data are presented by patient age, sex, race/ethnicity, family income, poverty status, education, geographic region, place of residence, activity limitation, and respondent-assessed health status.

The report, Use of Medical Device Implants in the United States, 1988, is available free of charge from the Scientific and Technical Information Branch, NCHS, ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø, Room 1064, 6525 Belcrest Road, Hyattsville, MD 20782; telephone (301) 436-8500.
