NCHS Data Linkage Activities
NCHS has developed a record linkage program designed to maximize the scientific value of the Center’s population-based surveys. Linked data files enable researchers to examine the factors that influence disability, chronic disease, health care utilization, morbidity, and mortality.
NCHS has released its first fully-synthetic linked data file and created a verification process so that researchers can confirm synthetic data results against the original data.
NCHS is currently linking various NCHS surveys with administrative data from the following:
-
- National Death Index (NDI)
- Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
- United States Renal Data System (USRDS)
- Social Security Administration (SSA)
- Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
- Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
