The ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø Privacy Unit is organizationally located under the ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and within the ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø Cyber Security Program Office (CSPO).

Our mission

The ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø Privacy Unit is organizationally located under the ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and within the ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø Cyber Security Program Office (CSPO). The Privacy Program collaborates with the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) as well as other key stakeholders (i.e., ISSOs, System Owners/Managers, Record Liaisons, Risk Management Officers, OMB Project Clearance Liaisons, Web Managers, Communication Directors, Training Coordinators, and HHS Liaisons). The ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø Privacy Unit has an enterprise-wide commitment to managing privacy risks throughout the life cycle of programs and information systems with personal identifying information (PII).

The Senior Official for Privacy:

  • Responds to requests for records submitted under the Privacy Act
  • Responds to ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø contracts
  • Develops privacy policy and procedures
  • Develops privacy awareness training
  • Communicates evolving Federal privacy requirements to staff
  • Reports on privacy compliance
  • Oversees privacy incident response efforts and activities

The ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø Privacy Unit:

  • Maintains an awareness of privacy laws and regulations
  • Advises ÐÇ¿ÕÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø staff on privacy issues
  • Coordinates privacy-related activities
  • Fosters the adoption of privacy policy and procedures
  • Ensures websites maintain current privacy policies
  • Responds to requests for records under the Privacy Act
  • Resolves privacy incidents/breaches
  • Responds to quarterly and annual FISMA data calls
  • Ensures completion of privacy awareness training
  • Reviews Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) on IT systems and TPWAs
  • Participates in the publication of System of Records Notices (SORNs)
  • Attends the Privacy Coordinator group meetings.
